you'l take it in the :moon:

X2  by the time you factor in all of your time and the parts you end up loosing money unless you build for someone and they know what they are getting into and the cost that goes with it, its like building hotrods or custom bikes you need someone that wants something special and had deep pockets for what they want  :twocents:

yea cuz one of my buddies has a shop and all he does is build whatever people want him to build all the way from harleys to diesels and he has more money then he knows what to do with.  i guess you just need a good reputation of doing good work and a lot of people to spread the word to make good buisness...
well if anyone needs work done in Napa california im up for anything. but i guess if you cant do the work yourself you wouldnt be on here...

Or, and this may be a hard thing for some to wrap their heads around, you do the work on people's rigs and undercut everybody else!  Greed is fucked and will bight you in the ass, but if you offer a good, reputable service at a low price you'll have constant work and will gain more respect.

Or you could just be greedy and think in the short term  :shake:

Or you can insert your pointless comment on my opinion, i never stated anything about price gouging. Guess you are just working to get 7000 posts i understand........

charge out their ass for the work
.  This is a shitty way to look at things, plain and simple.  If you get butthurt when I point that out, get used to it, because I don't feel at all bad about pointing it out when people try and take advantage of others.  And please tell me that after 1 1/2 years on the site you still think chit chat posts count  :haha:

I am aware of the fact that this is :pokinit: chat and posts do not count, not that they matter or show that the person has any knowledge. And then you must hate every business known to man since most markup is 30% or more. Much more than the 6% that was thought to be just by Benjamin Franklin

My (napa) store marks up an average of 35-40% for walkin/regulars and 25-30% for shops/real good customers. That is because it takes 28% to keep our doors open.  Go tell Franklin he forgot about Insurance, Workmans Comp, alarms, payroll, taxes and just plain old ELECTRICITY...and explain what all those are while your at it.

Wow...I think someone is having their period! Water weight, bloating, cramping and moodiness. It must be a heavy day.

Wow, burn... glad the third grade period humor came out from someone probably in their 30's.

Most business's charge obscene markups, also the reason how many stay in business. The average Joe doesn't know the actual cost of the product or service. So if you are at or equal to what the market will handle you can charge that much. For example a gear oil change in your t-case at a grease monkey is $39.99... Takes less than 10 minutes to drain and refill, takes about four pints i believe. Labor is about five bucks the fluid is $0.75 bulk price from Rex Oil. Total company cost is around $8, markup of $31.... doesn't seem fair, but that what we charge and people pay it. I am not saying i believe it is right, i am saying it is what happens. Market driven prices is how this economy runs and turns such a large profit for so many business'.

Wowee!

You're witty aren't you?

Seriously man...you need some laxatives.

I would say most long term businesses charge enough to cover overhead and probably 8-10% profit.

30! I wish  Learn how to read a profile.

Just slightly witty and i guess that was a compliment then, i was off by 21 years...

The guy I work for has been operating this Grease Monkey since 1995, he fully bought it in 2004 when it was making $40,000 a month. He now makes $80,000+ a month and his operating costs are about $28,000 a month including labor. $52,000 a month in capital sounds pretty dang good to me and with a 78% return rate on all customers he is second in the nation for Grease Monkey's, even though he price gouges on everything.
