Venom Creeper

Check out the selectable locking diffs. I hear it will be around $220 Ready-To-Run but won't be available until late December.

This appears to be an Axial killer, well, in terms of "Over the counter" R/C Crawler

Yeah those axles are pretty cool. These things seem pretty sick, looking forward to seeing first opinions.

Want to be the first to run one but I don't know how reliable the diffs would be. What are your opinions?

Details man, details!
First off, I dont like the fact that you cant mount a battery on the axle, The tranny is HUGE. and the axle locks are pointless if you ask me, my axial with front/rear dig turns on a dime compared to the creeper with the diffs unlocked... im going to build a sweet scaler with these axles and trans though.

Come on bro, you can mount the batteries there, if you build a tray for it. The trans is big but... so. It is very balanced compared to the Axial. And the axles a beef, so are the driveshafts. Check out the weight on 2/3a cells, they are super light and an 8 cell wouldn't be bad in the tray. I already have some places in mind for a 8-10 cell pack.

The tranny is HUGE.

I agree the tranny is large, and at first when I saw it, I was thinking..... why did they design such a huge trans? Then I realized the benefit: No humongous spur gear. Without the huge gear reduction from the typical pinion-spur combo, they had to add additional gear reductions (probably 2 or 3 in series) in order to get the gearing down.

I think the advantage is you won't get dirt or small rocks in the spur gear and you won't be stripping out the spur gear or pinion.

The thing I don't like about this is flexibility. With a spur and pinion combo, simply change the gears for a very wide arrangement of gear ratios. I don't know how the Venom trans can accommodate gearing, but for sure it will involve a near complete disassembly of the transmission in order to change gearing, and even then, I am sure the gearing options are far limited compared to the Axial transmission.

Changing the gear ratio of an Axial trans only requires a couple steps and can be done in under a minute.

It can be changed from 25-1 to 68-1. Stock is 50-1 and with only a pinion gear change can go 53, 57, 62. So still very easy. You will soon see it Mikey.

haha sorry mike, im keeping them for now. If i change my mind ill let you know.

Also another thing i dont like is the motor mount screws are a pain to get in and out...

I just threw some E-Savage Springs on mine. The stock ones felt way to soft, guess ill see how i like it.

Agreed, the only thing that I don't like is the motor mount screws. PITA. Everything else is sweet.
