Well I wasn't thinking about that time.  I was thinking about my '85 front axle.  but i didn't realize you were talking about the rear.

Hyena

C'mon, i pulled a complete front axle into my garage about 20 feet by myself.  Although i did drag it.  Then i took it apart and it didn't weigh as much.     :sly:

To The Floor

Well yeah I lifted it onto a dolly by myself.  But it took my dad and I to get it out of the back of the truck

Yeah i was wondering the weight of an 85 front axle cause the guy who is shipping it to me doesn't know how to weigh it.

I'd say it's probably 250-300 pounds.

You got to be kidding. The 12 bolt housing under my K5 is only 75lb empty. I can handle the axle by myself without hte drums so it can't be over 150. Surely the toy 8 inch cant be heavier then the GM cast iron center 8.75.

You boys need to go get some wheaties.

empty it's probably like 30 we're talking complete axle not just housing.

I didin't type that out cealr. the GM with everything but drums is about 150#.

88runner

you're talking about the rear or the front?

toy front is in the neighbor of 300 and rear is less then 200 maybe like 150 with all on it.
cast iron doesn't weight as much as steel.

Rear.

GM 10 bolt front is about 325-340 (abotu the same as a D44, D44 might be a little heavier, they use a little thincker tube). I can move it around one end at a time but way to much for me to get off the ground alone.  Now you want to talk heavy...D60 front is around 500lb. I helped move one of those around and MAN what a pig.

I just cant see a toy rear even with drums being much more then 150 range. Especialy with the 30lb empty housing figure up there.

True if your talking about a 2x2x2 inch block but that cast iron center is THICK so the axle over all is heavier. Also the GM uses some thick pipe for the tubes. I know the shipping weight on empty housing is 75lb or so.

88runner

30 lbs was for the front without knuckel maybe more :dunno:

I'm not really a reference when come to weight, I moved my complete front axle allone for about 20 feet without dragin it,
had to take a day off after that but made it  :hahaha: :joke:

Hi

I have 2 in my garage, its about 270. the housing alone is about 70 and the third member is heavier than the housing.
i can measure the unassembly one if you really want

brainlessfool

I think we could use a REAL wight on this thing.  for the front LOADED, I vote for around 225-250

rotors, thrid ect. just no springs
