85 Trail-runner build-up

this is my project truck, Not what you would call "trail ready" Needs some work before I hit the trails.
I have installed an Aussie locker and put on the land cruiser vented rotors with V6 ifs calipers. This truck was my daily driver, that is why it has small tires. I want to run 35" swamper boggers or sx's.

I have installed a 2" body lift(not in picture) I am going to do a 2" drivetrain lift and gas tank lift. My springs arrived last week 4" (went with AP, wanted marlins but did not want to weld on the front end for the hanger) I think he has a better spring, but would not work for my application. My springs are setting in my garage waiting for the money for a marlin hy-steer. Then I will install it all.

CTENG, how much lift do you have? your 4-runner looks great. Do you have any pics from the side of the truck?

What lift?? lol Its still stock just cut till they sorta fit.

I love the look, but she is unwheelable. When I get the rear figured out and move the rear springs up front I will drill the perches and get the axle as far forward as I can. We'll see just how much lift is needed to clear those guys. Truth be told, I'd rather flatten the belly and drop it another inch or too, but physics seems to be holding me back!

Heck ya no lift and big tires rocks. I have an 84 runner that had alot of body rust but i got out the old trusty sawzall and took care of all that.

Im running 35/16/15 boggers and they dont rub much at all with the stock suspension and swaybars and shocks still hooked up. Only rub i have is on the rear of the firewall when i turn sharp but nuttin a big Sledge

wont take care of.

This build is going slower than Marlin's triple case crawler

I got a little side tracked, Nitro truggy and 1/8 scale RC racing. Caution: Nitro RC racing is addictive and expensive. A set of tires and wheels are $100. I don't even want to talk about a set of shocks. The race motor (Novarossi .28) for the truggy cost more than a rebuid kit for a 22re. If I had all the money I sunk into that, My crawler would be finished. Well, enough with the excuses. I install an Aussie locker in the front. Rebuilt the front axel while I was in there. Made a cross member for the transfer case, so I could raise it 2". I also raised the motor 2" by fabricating some motor mount lift blocks(just like the one 4crawler sells). I got the marlin sliders installed. Now, I am building a rear bumper. Pics to come later..... $Beer Chug\'n$

Can't decide if I want to make clevis mounts or listen to these rattle while I'm going down the trail. 11,000LBS D-rings.

super glue magnets on the D portion of the ring to keep er stuck down, just don't put the magnet in a spot that will likely get a chain or strap put on...usually put it towards the end right before the hinge portion

that bumper is nice and clean. like the rest of the truck.
are you going to run some more protection around the rear lights and rear panel?
if you want to chop your fenders check out how olivedrab has done it. easier than welding in sheet.
i copied him and did mine about 2 weeks ago. so far so good. i used a die grinder to make my cuts. came out pretty smooth, but took along time and alot of blades. but i think it was worth the time.

Ya, I thought about that. I'm waiting to get a tubing bender. Man are they pricey! I don't mind spending $299 on a bender. Its the dies that are crazy, over $200 a piece. I want a 1.75 and 1.5" die. I really like marlins bumpers, but it seems like that is all you see. I just want to build something different. For the price he charges, you can't really go wrong. 1.5" DOM tubing .120 wall, around here cost $3.40 per foot. If you add the price of steel and the cost of a bender and dies, I see why every goes that route.

Come down here for a day and I will help ya build some corner protection for that thing. Just bring some tube and pitch in on gas and wire and all will be good. Hell buy enough for some sliders too. I like the look of square and round mixed and for the sliders I'd go the same route, square under the rockers with some tube off of that.
