i think 1 ton 2wds got the w56

count the splines on it, if it's 21 spline it's a w56, if 26 spline it's a G58(junk)

2WD trucks were available with the G or W series transmissions. Most EFI trucks got the W55, or W56 trans and after 88, I have never seen a G behind a 22R EFI motor.

The 2WD W56 will have a 3.83 first gear set that was never available in a 4WD truck :(
It is not uncommon to find a 2WD 3.83 gear set in a core 4WD trans from the large slam rebuilder companys :moon:

Count the center case bolts.
8 bolts  G trans
9 bolts  W trans

Both share the same bellhousing.

I have a number of 2WD W trans in stock. Due to the lighter drive train, they almost always will have a good reverse idler gear.

It has 21 splines and has 9 bolts on the center section.

So with that I'm assuming its a W55 or W56. Is they any way of knowing what it is for sure?

Also is there a market for these 2wd trannys because I need to get rid of it but I would like to get a little something for it.....

To The Floor

I was about to post and say it's most likely a W55, but Marlin took care of that
in the projects nooga, anything goes

So how do I figure out which one it is?

Marlin

I will do some research in the Toyota fisch and see if I can find a differance.
I have not done enough of the 2WD trans to figure it out yet :dunno:
