Bazzi-

Could you show us on Google maps where your favorite wheeling place is?

For instance, when you have a map pulled up in Google maps, you can hit the "Link" option at the top right and copy+paste it here.

For instance,
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Reykjavik,+iceland&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.27475,74.707031&ie=UTF8&ll=64.137198,-21.911888&spn=0.050096,0.145912&t=h&z=13&iwloc=addr

Or you can use GPS coordinates, such as this link for my favorite lake to camp at, Thompson Lake on the Dusy-Ershim trail:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=+37.202353%C2%B0,+-118.958206%C2%B0&sll=37.180424,-118.929234&sspn=0.091498,0.145912&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16&iwloc=addr

Thanks man, I love your pics :snapshot:

63 56.319 N
19 17.626 W
there are 2 nice ones on each side of that location. can´t get google map to go there  :dunno:
named Hrafntinnusker and Landmannalaugar. Landmannalaugar has some nice hot springs
64.36588 N , 19.00788 w
that one is the hub setrið... mabe you guy´s can add that into google maps.... it always goes to a different location...  :dunno:

Wow those are so cool Bazzi. I only checked the ones you linked direct, I will check the GPS coords later today on Google Earth.

So it looks like the 2nd one you linked is about 30-40 miles south of you. Is there a paved road all the way there or are you on dirt for most of the drive? How fast can you run on the roads between the city and the playgrounds? Is 86 kph a safe speed with those tires?

I love learning about this sort of stuff. I can't wait to visit countries east of the Americas. I am always inspired by them. I actually have a huge ~ 2.5 m X 1.8 m wall map on the wall right next to my bed at home and I enjoy sitting on the bed and just learning about geography.

sorry about that mike. google maps seams to move from the location I type in into next location of interest or something.... here are the correct locations for those places...

the first location
64 01.886 N
21 23.218 w
hellisheiði. that road is paved and 2-3 lanes all the way... I always feel kinda scared when I pull off that road

the second location
64 13.531 N
20 57.112 W
that´s varða, that road is also paved most of the way but most of it is icelandic road = you have to be brave when you meet a full size truck on that road without completle pulling over at the side of the road... it´s possible but scary.
from that location we would drive to this one
64 22.451 N
20 42.664 w
from there we would deside what direction now... Langjökull or Kjölur or Kaldidalur or gullkistan (gold chest) all nice and fun.... and you can always go back the same rute you came....

those locations are all roghly taken with nobeltec visual navigator.
these tires are safe to drive at 90 km/hr  that´s the top legal speed here in iceland. but the truck has to be top notch. some drive faster but 80-90 is plenty when you are driving a truck that big. and mpg only go up when you drive faster....
pleace let me know if you want to know something else...

That is awesome :yesnod: Roughly speaking, what is the percentage of petrol powered trucks out there compared to normally aspirated diesel powered compared to turbo diesel powered?

Like, 10% petrol, 20% diesel, 70% turbo diesel?

Also, what tire air pressure are you guys running?

I would think it´s roughly around 40% petrol 55% diesel turbo and 5% diesel

and normally for the air pressure,  we have a chart somewhere for the rookies to follow, If I remember correctly,

and on this page they speak off how to adjust the tire pressure and why to litle pressure is dangerus
http://www.arctictrucks.is/Pages/1517
I made the link so I could mabe transulate it for you guys later.
but as the picture shows they are
saying that for a truck weighing roughly 2000 kg 4409 pounds
and for
                                  31"            33"           35"          38"               44"
asfault                        30 psi       25 psi        25 psi        25 psi         20 psi
gravel                         20 psi       18 psi        18 psi        13 psi          9 psi
hard snow                   8 psi          7 psi          7 psi          7 psi          5 psi
soft snow/powder         6 psi          5 psi          4 psi          3 psi          3 psi

I think this chart was made by Freyr  Jónsson I think his name is but he crossed the Greenland glacier and was with the first trucks ewer to drive on the south pole. he ditn´t make it to the sout pole cause he was on a different mission but he drove around it or something...

Anywho I´ll continue this later I gotta run

Cool  I knew normally aspirated diesels would be low but roughly 40% petrol surprised me :)

about the pressure chart. this is what he recomends for the novise.. this is probably what he feels safe and secure for the tires and so on...
Basicly what he is that how important it is to keep the tires from heating, and how awake we have to bee when we are crawling in 1-2 psi in loose snow we have to be aware off that we can´t go on driving on the hard snow on 50-90 km/p.hour.....  for that we have to air up.... that´s the reason for so many peoble fix theyr trucks with on board air system controlled from the inside of the truck. so they can air up and down when on the move.

What is the craziest wind you've been out playing with the trucks in? 90 kph? It looks/sounds pretty windy

we normally talk about meters per second. and 10-14 m/p.sek is consideret ok but we will try and see how the weather will turn, good or worse... I have headet out when the weather is supposed to be something like in 18-24 m/p.sek a few times, but I haven´t done that for fun.
I have also been in a hut when the weather was over 40 meters. but I can´t remember how strong the wind was that time.
This is no picknick so we try and be on the safe side of the weather, here in iceland the weather can change in few hours or minutes, here are some pics of snow balls that the wind sometimes makes, I have seen them up to 30 sm big, but the first pic is an old drawing from what was descriped after a real strong weather, those snow balls where told to be up to 1 meter, they start out real small, the wind probably blows up a small part or something, the wind keeps rolling the ball till he gets to heavy for the wind, sometimes you can see the path the balls rolled... they are werry often mistaken for rocks.
