Gear box upgrade???
« on: Sep 27, 2008, 05:54:14 PM »
So this is not exactly a toyota but......

This is a 94 Nissan Hardbody. Has a 350cu chevy and th350 with NP203(i think). Also has 82-ish toyota axles. The steering might as well not even be power sterring and the total sterring angle is very poor. Was thinking maybe an upgraded steering box is the way to go. Maybe Ford Bronco or Chevy blazer or something. Is there any problem with the toyota boxes cause I would not mind running one of those. Oh yeah, sitting on 38.5 tsl's.

What are some of the problem I will have to deal with when doing such a swap (ie, linkage, steering shaft)

thanks
jeff

all that chevy drivetrain on yota axles :ack:

well you can  go with a  86-95 steering box  with a histeer kit,   this  will give you the option of  using a hydro assist  if  you need more  juices flowing

Hydro assist???

Yeah, not my choice of drivetrain either. Just what came in the truck. Plans are toyota transfercase (either doubled or the 4.7crawler single, not sure yet)and the old school Datsun L28 straight 6cyl from the z cars and 280zx, I have a ton of them. The t-case would be set up as a divorce case. But that is way later. just wanna make it useable on the trails right now.

here's the hysteer kit http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/steering.htm

hysteer? that is stust standard power steering no?, i already have powersteering on the nissan frame. I was wondering if the toyota one was more suited to the larger tires?
