X over steering
« on: Sep 25, 2008, 04:20:32 PM »
I need some help with the mounting of my steering on my 82 yota? How far forward do you put the frame brace and what angle should the pitman arm be? If you can direct me to a link that shows pics and such would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You want to place the PS box on the frame rail with the pitman arm installed. Turn the pitman arm towards the motor, you want the arm to have about a 1/8in clearence to the bottom of the frame. You want the steering shaft to point straight at the steering wheel. On my truck I have to cut off the driver side bumper mount to get the box far enough foward, and trim most of the inner fender off   . After you have it AS FAR FOWARD AS IT CAN GO, and the angle is good for the steering shaft, mark the holes and cut. You want to the tie rod and drag link to be parallel. If the Tie Rod and Drag Link are parallel, then you know you moved the box far enough forward.  :turtle:
