BRAKES!!! need help.
« on: Sep 19, 2008, 06:54:22 PM »
ok ive been having this problem for quite a while now, push the pedal and it goes straight to the floor. ive bleed them 6 times and the pedal still goes straight to the floor, im really starting to think about taking it to midas and having them deal with it, beacuse i cant figure it out. i have been bleeding the brakes in the correct order. any advice? and as far as i can tell i dont have a leak anywere.  :beerchug:

Thanks

Does pressure build up if you pump them or does it always go to the floor?
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Like White trash said, does it build pressure or always go to the floor?

If it builds some sort of pressure, I would bleed the master cylinder then do all the others...

If builds no pressure, most likely the master cyl is bad.

Is there any sort of leakage from the master cylinder around the back of it on the booster?

By chance, are you using a vac bleeder (1 person method) or are you pumping and then opening the bleeder while holding (2 person method)?

Sometimes the vacuum bleeders can't get all the air out.. Try getting a buddy and pressurizing the system old school.  I'll bet you get brakes then.  I've had the same issue before.

I think you and I are having the same problem.

I've heard someone recommend to have the truck running while doing it, I just don't get why you'd do that.

Also heard a recommendation to open valve first, then have someone push and hold while you close the valve.  I don't know why.

I had a good friend tell me that I should just keep on bleeding, to put a big bottle or two through it.  How many squirts should it take at the far wheel(driver rear)?

I have the best luck having someone pump the brakes while I keep my finger over the open bleeder to keep air out.  That or putting a small line over the bleeder into a container of brake fluid will also do the same thing.

x2...you have the symptoms of a bad master cylinder. They are easy to replace. I did mine in my friends driveway in less than 30 minutes.

your using a vacuum bleeder, toss that junk, get a buddy to pump the pedal till theres some pressure then have him  hold  the pedal down  YOU break open the bleeder, air will squirt out, then CLOSE the bleeder, and tell buddy to pump again
BUDDY MUST NOT LET THE PEDAL OFF THE FLOOR TILL YOU TELL HIM TO

i have never in my life even when replacing an entire system  used more than 1/2 quart of fluid,  but that was wheel cylinders master lines and all

after you get the air out mite want to check the rear ajustment too. if there low you'll have to pump them to get brakes. some time ppl misstake it for needing to rebleed.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

yes multiple times, i bought new wheel cylinders today and i still can get the rear brakes to bleed just air comes out no fluid, is it possible that i have a clog?

...maybe. the air that comes out is there pressure behind it? like when you crack the bleeder can you hear the air or does just nothing come out

Crack the bleeder at the lspv and have someone (or a 2x4) push the pedal down with it open. Hold the pedal, close the bleeder and repeat. Bleed the lpsv first before worry about the wheels. By the way I hope it's not a NAPA reman master cylinder . I bought one and bench bled it and had the same problem you're havin. New parts don't mean good parts!!

sometimes what I do is kind of a speed bleed. stick your finger over the bleeder screw while it is open, then have someone pump the brakes till fluid comes out. your finger will act as a one way valve. fluid has to come out if it is releasing any kind of pressure when the brake pedal is pressed.

you could also do a gravity bleed...it takes a while, but it might work for you. all you got to do is open all four corners and just let it bleed out. KEEP AN EYE ON THE MASTER LEVEL. you do not want that to get to low.
An eye for an eye makes the world blind.

And make sure to leave the lid off...This is how I usually replace brake fluid. Has always worked for me..And just because a part is new doesn't mean it works.

Damn, that's cavalry right there.  Going to town on it.

I was going to suggest you releasing the rear-most fitting at the cylinder(closest to cab), while someone is pushing the pedal.  If nothing comes out, you know it's the MC.  Had that problem before myself.

I've bled the hell out of my brakes currently and still get pedal to floor.  At this point, I'm certain it must be the MC.  Time to replace another MC(piece of cake, just trouble finding one right now).

What about the vacccum booster - what are symptoms of that going bad?  Since he's already replaced the MC, perhaps it could be that?
