:werd:  My L43 has over 500,000 miles without a rebuild.  Worst it does is slip out of 4th gear occasionally when coasting downhill, but a light hand on the shifter stops that.  Smoothest shifting toyota tranny I've had in a long time   $50 is a good deal!

I have put my l-43 through hell! I have owned my truck since early 97, through 4 sets of tires, 2 sets of motor mts, :blah: :blah: :blah:.. i have heard or the rear aluminum tailshaft breaking/ cracking/ but personally havent experienced that problem..I aquired a 2nd one because my shifter fell apart 1 night.. make sure those 12mm bolts on the r/s are secure! Besides not having o/d, 1st gear is a little high for tires over 33" :usa:
