I"m about to swap a W56 and transfer case into an 87 automatic.  Is there anything that I need to know about the swap?

man its nothing but cake!!! i had an 85 runner with an automatic and it literally took 45 min to an our to drop the automatic and another 3 hours to put the 5 speed in. all you need is the right rear drive shaft and short the neutral safety switch . oh yea you have to cut a little on the floor board to get the shifters through!! good luck :driving:

Cake swap a buddy and I had it done in a few hours total including pedal swap.  Its really easy to do.  Its easiest to do if you have EVERYTHING sitting there waiting for you.  Such as pedal, 1 1/2" holesaw for mounting the master, master line and slave syl. flywheel and clutch assembly.  We got away with using the stock drivelines but in reality the rear could use to be about 1 1/2" longer.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I want to be like WT when I grow up.  Thanks, I thought it would be fairly simple, and it will be.  We have an entire donor rig.
