Just picked up an 85 celica gt for $200 with efi and a dead a/t. Engine runs great and only 129,000 miles. I just got done gutting the interior and getting all the wiring I need for the EFI swap I'm doing on my 87 4x4 p/u. A couple of questions...Can I keep the oil pan on the celica engine? I will be SASed before the engine goes in. And, are the fuel pumps interchangable? I want to put the celica fuel pump in my 87 carbed tank but don't know if it'll hold the pressure the same or if it'll fit. Anyone done this? And if anyone can think of any other problems I may encounter with this swap I would like to hear about them. thanks

Also, I have a practically new (200 miles old) header from lc engineering that I had on my 87 22R and I would like to keep it and put it on this engine. Do I have to keep an o2 sensor to run EFI?

'85 celica should have about the same EFI setup as a pickup, since '85 was the crossover year into digital fuel injection.

i'm not sure about the fuel pump working on the truck tank...if your truck is carbed and has a mechanical fuel pump(not like mine with one in the tank for a carb -- 79 was the only year like this :ack: ), get an inline fuel pump and plumb new lines that can take the pressure.

i think you're going to want to swap oil pans, as celicas and 2wd truck had different types of sumps

when my 89 pickup motor blew up i got a 85 celica with 229,000 miles as a donor motor. your gonna have to use the pickup oilpan. thats about all i remeber because i didnt put the motor in
Im an OG

Thanks guy. Almost ready to pull the engine, everything disconnected except the main fuel line. How do you go about doing that safely with little mess?

get a hoist, hook your chains up to the 2 convenient hooks toyota provides on the engine and yank that sucker out of there

I used a 2wd pickup and pan on my truck.  A lot different than the 4wd pickup and pan, but it worked.

That is EXACTLY what I used for my EFI Swap.  Theres a bit of wiring involved, because the Celica runs the coil/ignitor thru the dash harness, as well as the O2.  You'll have to extend all the wires for the AFM and get an airbox and intake tubing from an EFI truck to make it work.  I can post up some pics of my swap if you'd like...
