R150 to gear drive case questions
« on: Aug 16, 2008, 05:53:33 PM »
I have a 4.7 topshift t case with a 23 spline input that I want to run behind my 3.0. I already purchased a used 30-4GT V6 adapter plate from someone on the board. My question is about the transfer case mount. What is it going to take to bolt this in?? I've heard that a gear drive t case mount is all it will take to bolt it in. What about rear driveshaft length? I've read online that some rear shafts have to be lengthened. Any help is much appreciated!! :inthedark:

Im actually in the process of installing mine right now.
Its a fresh 4.70 rebuilt 23 spline case from marlin, along with their v6 adapter plate.
I was worried about how i was gonna support it, and was planning on plasma cutting out something like Front range offroads crossmember,
but...
after some measuring, ive found that using the 4cyl tranny mount they gave me (MC-14214, Transfer Case Mount, Heavy Duty, $110) I should be able to bolt the case right up to my stock crossmember...
The v6 cases mounting holes are actually farther back on the case by a small amount, and the v6 mount compensates for this, whereas the 4cyl. mount lines up perfectly.

Now, heres the catch...
Ater some more measuring ive found that the 4cyl. gear drive case is actually longer, because of the adapter im guessing, and it puts the flange a measly 3/4" more toward the rear.
Now, this is just enough to screw you up if you have an extended cab like me, with a 2 piece driveline and carrier bearing.
I dont mind, cause im gonna chop the carrier bearing mount and tuck it up more anyway, but its good info to know.
I couldnt find anything about this anywhere else.

Also, apparently you have to grind a small portion of the transmission off for a bolt to clearance correctly, but nowhere is there good info on where or how much, and i didnt get the gasket they say to use as a template... :headscratch:

I just need a gear drive case mount and I'm set. I'm trying to find a used one though. I can't justify spending $110 for a new mount. 4Xinnovations has a bomb proof one for $85.

I'll order one of his once the duals are ready to go in.
