Can I run 38" tires on stock 4banger and transfer case?
« on: Aug 04, 2008, 10:39:50 AM »
Hey guys i have a 81 pickup and im running 32" tires right now I want to go bigger and found some nice 38" tires would it be possible to run these or would i hurt the truck? it has a 3" lift and I plan on cutting the fenders and doing a dual transfer case in the future.

Should handle it fine as long as you are geared correctly and carry spare birfields

You need at least 5.29's for 38" tires.  Maybe even 5.71's.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Gear swaps are best left to pro's it requires special tools and quite a bit of know how, or yyou will destroy your brand new gears, Marlin sells new gear kits.

5.71's will probably work fine if you have an experience person set them up and have the teeth of the ring and pinion set in together more for strength.
