Jeep Newb... Should I Check this Cherokee Out?

I work with a kid. He has a red 92 jeep cherokee 4x4 4 door 4.0 with an auto trans. He is thinking about selling it for $500. I do not have the money, but my sister is thinking about a jeep for her first car, and I figured a cherokee would be perfect. Do you guys think I should check it out? What should I look for? Are the autos any good? I have only seen the jeep from about a block away, so I don't know too much about it yet. Thanks!

PM blingn, he knows quite a bit about them.  the 4.0 is a good motor, I've heard the trannys are junk, but I have no personal knowledge of them.  However, if its in "decent" shape, $500 isn't a bad price.
