Cant decide on springs
« on: Jul 27, 2008, 09:42:03 AM »
Hey guys  I've got a 85 4-runner and I cant decide which springs to use  marlin, allpro, or rear's up front.  My goal is to fit 38's with as little of lift as possible.  I'm not afraid of a sawzall either I've already made enough room to clear 35's with absolutely zero lift.  I thought about just getting the marlin 4 inch trail flex kit but by the time the shackles and drop brackets are added in it will be about 5.5 inches of lift and thats way too much for my liking.  Is it also possible to re-arch the marlin springs to lower them. I would like to set it up to have about 4 inches of up travel and the rest droop. So what do you think guys?

i have 5" all pros way too tall for my liking also. i just took 2 leafs out wich lowered it about 1.5-2" and finally put some bumps on. bottoms out real easy on the fire roads but on the trail they work great

If I go with the 4 inch marlins do i have to use the drop brackets for the front axle and new mounts for the rear cause that will add another 1 1/5 inches for sure.

As long as it's not Chinese steel or stamped metal, you're fine.  3-4 inches seems to be ideal.  Mine are technically 1-2 inch in the rear but have a leaf removed so that they run close to stock - maybe 1/2 inch higher.(but with no sag)
