i made a post about a month ago about my truck making noise in the front and thought it was the front axel ... but i took it to the 4x4 shop and they said the axel is fine except for leaky seals, but they said the front drive shaft cv joint is bad and that they were going to need a kit and have to weld it on .... i never saw the kit they were speaking of but i think the u joint is floppy cause it makes that ticking sound when i turn going forward....=/
OK i take it that the cv joint we talk about is actually called the double carbon joint and the other side the joint is called spider bearing ( u joint)? Any how the manual says if any problems are found with the double carbon to replace the front propeller shaft assembly, but it does show how to replace the spider bearing....
by your post Im not sure which driveline you want to build...the 79-84s use a Precision 613 and the 85+ use a 614 for the ball kit.FWIW, Jesse @ High Angle Driveline has told me he never messes with repairing one, he just gets a late model unit that is still good and clearances it.Glen: thanks for the heads up.
