these quotes are all from this threat... I ditnīt want to steal that one so......http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=47074.0
just get a birf eliminator kit. it uses a D44 chromo shaft and u joint. a toyota and D44 shaft are so similar in size that all that is needed to run a D44 shaft in the toy housing is a different pitch on the splining, hell they are even both 30 spl. inners. as for the outter shaft all they do is spline it to 30 for the toy hub instead of 19 for the D44.
problem solved since a chromo D44 shaft ( birf eliminator kit) will be strong enough for you (although a 30spl birf has been tested to be stronger and cheaper) you will never have to do a trail fix again on your toyota axle running D44 shafts inside it.
how much more turn radius do you gain using that birf eliminator kit. ?
just remember that a regular u-joint inner will bind before a birfield joint will.
yet the 44 still turns sharper than a toy axle.
uuuu... wich one is it.
I thought that the turn radius on a stock toy was turned down by those adjusting skrewes, so that we donīt brake the birfs. or at least to stop it from binding up.
If my last thought is right, I would have to shave off those stoppers to gain more radius... someone might thing cool thatīs a huge gain.... I would have to rebuild my front 3-link because as for now when I hit full turn the tire is close to hitting my rangerover link.
I went with 30 spline longs and started blowing up diffs, took 3 sets to convince me to toss the toy axle completely and go with a 60. Either dump alot of money in the toy axle, or dump alot of money in a 44.
is it possible to shave down that d60 so that the truck would get streat legal with 38-44" pleace anyone answear me this.
I thought the biggest gain with the d60 hybrid is
1 you canīt shave the d60 down to that with,
2 and ground clerance...
for my half.
I am going for the longfiels, I am also going for the cruiser diffs. wich are 9,5" compared to the d60 wich is 9,75" if I remember correctly. they are drop in just like the 8", and uses the same spline as the 8".
I am thinking if I shave the housing for ground clerance I will be getting the same or simular as an original 8" toy.
the only problem I have is that the cruiser housings are a litle wider than the hilux.
this is what I am summing up off this threat... pleace set me straight if I am getting this all wrong.
