project overhaul (build up thread)

 picked up the solid axle for the build.its out of a 79.5 first gen. it hasbeen sitting out back of my buddies house for a while now but what i think i need is all there so its worth it. plus i got it for free so thats even better. first thing i ask is how do i get the thing looking clean and good to go. ill be putting a new diff in , new bigger brakes, armor, covers, rebuilding the whole thing so how do i go about cleaning this beast?

any tips or pointers? all advise greatly appriciated

take it apart and start wire wheeling and grinding.... brakeclean works well to get the oils off later.....

pick up some flap disks to get all the paint off.
to clean it use some super clean, purple power, ect

I just use house sand in my Harbor Freight 40 pound sand blaster. Parts that you do not want to get blasted cover with blue masking tape. Things like the knuckle balls and gasket surfaces I use a 3 M roto lok discs in my die grinder. I spent hours on my first axle when I did my SAS years ago only to have it look like crap after one summer of wheeling.
