I'd say it's probably adjusted and set up just fine if it ran well at 12,000 feet!

I started thinking about it a little more, and rather than going with an electric choke, I may as well just get a manual choke!  I think they're like $25 or so through JT outfitters.

Stuck mine up a hill the other day to bleed the coolant system of air bubbles, and it ran much better.  It did want to lope a little, but it wasn't trying to die like it used to.

i find i can climb steep hills if i stay on the gas, but if it stalls its a bear to start again until you get it more level. i wish carburetors had something else instead of a float bowl. im gonna design a new fuel metering system for my weber

ive looked all over the internet for a TBI 22r but never found anybody that had built one. some people mentioned putting a 2.5L GM tbi kit on a 22r, but i didnt see it done.
whenever i get a second car and i dont have to daily drive my truck, it will get propane. ive been planning this for a long while now, and ive got the perfect motor for propane. then my truck will go everywhere

heck the 2.5L GM TBI sounds promising.
you may have to mess with the injectors a bit to match the 22R.
but I'd look into it for sure.

Screw wires, i just mounted my new weber 32/36 to my shortblock 20r last night haha i'm building it in my apartment! I went with a manual choke because i know how that works and i think it looks alot cleaner, I'm trying to go for less wires under the hood then my 67 Bronco!

Any way i had a question, can i pick up the fuel regulator for no more than 2-3 psi from any parts store like say Napa?

And another question i had, I am putting my new 20r in an 83 toy 4x4 that has a very dead 22r in right now.
Can I use the 22r mechanical fuel pump that runs off the cam on my 20r weber combo? the motor has the spot of course to mount one up, but i always see guys with block off plates covering the hole and they run a electric fuel pump instead.

May be stupid questions, but i just wanna have this thing right! very nice write up/ thread by the way!!!

the mechanical fuel pump works fine, and it has a built in regulator and return line going to the gas tank.
i dont know if napa has those regulators, but DO NOT buy the one from www.summitracing.com its JUNK.  :twocents:

Just a quick "me too":
I got a regulator from Advance Auto Parts for about $30. Have it set at 3 pounds for now, testing to see how much is too much. Also put on a junkyard header with 2 1/4" and Thrush cheapie muffler. She goes a bit faster now! We're hoping for better mileage as well.

Next weekend I'll dig into the carb... good post, thanks!!

Cool, I've yet to install my regulator.  I should, just never got around to it.

Had the truck out a bit more recently and it doesn't seem to like much of an angle still, but I may need to drop the float level a bit more too.  I'll be driving it for the next few days till I get paid, but after that I'll fill up the 2wd and park the 4by to do some weber tuning.

I jetted a bit leaner and dropped the float a little while I was in there.  Haven't had a chance to point it up a hill yet, but I'm driving it right now to see what difference, if any, there is in mileage now, so I can find a hill and see if there's any difference.

I performed this mod on my Weber. It climbs and idles great, but once in a while it will start to run crappy after a decent climb. The motor will start surging like its starving for fuel. Then it won't idle correctly. I'll turn it off and take it easy for a while and then it starts to run fine again. Any idea what this might be?  Float level, tuning?

Leave it in the box and carry it in an EFI Toyota.

Actually, I had one on my old 85 and I never changed anything from the way it came out of the box and it ran like a top off road.  It would run rich and load up if I didn't keep the idle up a bit so I installed a hand throttle from Rubicon Express and would force it to stay a couple hundred RPM higher and could give it a bit more throttle when I was running short of feet.

Without clicking that link, I'm going to guess it's a mechanical injection setup using an old vw throttle body.  Yes, it's been repeatedly hashed out on this site, but it has no relevance to this thread since this is about making a weber climb a hill  ;)

Stupid, newb question here. Maybe i'm missing it. What is the correct way to measure and adjust the float height?

Also, anyone got a better pic of the fuel pressure regulator?

So you've been waiting 8 days for somebody on a forum to answer a question you couldn've had answered in less than 8 minutes with a google search  :headscratch:

Still not terribly well for me, but I just went to a holley red pump from a diaphram pump and set it up with a regulator at 2 psi, so we'll see if that makes a difference.

You really think I've waited 8 days to do this mod? No I said F it and didn't adjust it actually. Yes I tried a google search and didn't find what I needed, I thought this was a forum for faqs which usually tells you how to do things, but dam I'm wrong yet again.  and thanks for being a jackaz too!

Interesting.  I need to re set my float anyway, so I may as well do this while I'm in there.

How do you reset the float??
