I'm sure that Big Mike will post up at the end of this week again, but as of today, July 28th, we are at 55 rigs registered.

this is going to be my first time going to the round up so i have a few questions. do you have to have good tags? or is there anything els i need to know even if im going to trailer my samurai up there?

Your vehicle does have to be registered in some way.  Green sticker, street legal, or a registration extension (red tag)  but it does have to be registered.    By anything else, what do you mean?  poke around in the roundup talk section, some people have asked questions there already, and there is another thread in gen 4x4.

The LEO's will be checking registration on all rigs!
Even if you just have a temp, have something!

thats why I've kept the tags and ins. current on the buggy pictured above. its a '79 longbed p/u. its been down for a year an a half. the plate will be on it and the ins. paper on board.

From what I've read the trail is an unmaintained county road.

This year is shaping up to be another year with a significant law enforcement presence on and around the Rubicon Trail.

FYI, Memorial Day will have a significant show of law enforcement activity -- they'll be checking license, registration, and some equipment stuff in Eldorado County / El Dorado National Forest... spread the word. If you get a ticket, you are either 1.) dumb ... or 2.) uninformed <see number 1>. Plans include a checkpoint AND on-the-trail patrol, so if you plan a trip, use the time between now and then to obtain green sticker OHV registration and/or check your vehicle over for legality.

FWIW beyond that, the El Dorado Sheriff's Office plans 40 hours a week of deputy coverage ON THE TRAIL -- their plans included 12-hour shifts with a broad span of coverage, including weekends and evenings. Eldorado National Forest will have two Forest Protection Officers on the trail, again, as well.

What this means to you -- well, if you're operating a legal, licensed vehicle in a safe, legal fashion, IMHO you should see few effects, other than further reductions in idiocy and lawlessness. If you're planning to risk violating the law, be aware that you may be held accountable for your choice. Life is full of consequences -- choose wisely, and "Don't be dumb!"

Rubicon has improved significantly over the last few years -- let's keep up the improvements and recreate responsibly... there will be a law enforcement presence on the trail, so be aware.
