KDXSR5

1) Count the number of teeth on ring gear, divide by number of teeth on pinion.

2) It should not look like an open carrier when you look at the third, lol.

Yoat Goat

1) KDXSR5 hit the nail on the head.
2) you wont be able to see the crosspin and spider gears.

Jack both tires off the ground, slowly spin 1 tire if the other travel in the same direction you don't have an have an open differential. This is only accurate if there is no brake drag, and it still could be a limited slip.

To get approx gear ratio, you can jack both wheels turn both in the same direction at the same speed. While doing this count the # of turns the pinion flange makes. Just past 4 would be 4.10, almost 5 and a 3rd would be 5.29 ratio. This all takes a little guess work, but it shure beats pulling every axle apart, at the pick and pull, for the 3rd you desire.

1) revised: spin one tire 2 full revolutions while the other tire is still on the ground. Count the number of times the pinion flange/driveshaft spins. This is basically the same thing that Gittinit said, but you only spin one tire, not both, which is MUCH easier.

2) What Gittinit said.

ok. everything works out good but one more thing. The question is my front axle both wheel spin at the same direction when tire are jack up. but when one tire is on the ground the other tire still turn with a clicking sound. it is a limited slip? any ideal?
