85 Runner with a 3.4
« on: May 11, 2008, 03:17:54 PM »
Went up to Big Bear to try out my new motor. Yotamasters installed a 3.4 in my 85 4 Runner. Truck ran 80 mph on the 210 to and from without problem. Marlin's rear case slowed things down as expected to crawl over the trail. Jay did a great job on the instal. All the wiring is tucked away for a factory look. This is what Toyota should be building.

Nice!
RIP KYOTA

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

My standard response to that is...

If you have to ask, you can't afford it. But, by the looks of your signature, you can't afford to not do it. It is so nice to be able to drive up a hill on a freeway and not have to listen to a 4 cylinder at 5,000 RPM's in 3rd gear. That bad part for you is it will be harder (meaning more expensive and labor consuming) on your solid axle frame than it would be on an IFS that came stock with a 3.0.

Im plenty happy with my 22re, im just trying to get a number in my head for my future project. If my truck was a D/D I would have went with a bigger motor, but since it only see a few miles of pavement per year I am satisfied running the most dependable motor ever built!

I'm in the same boat.  I was planning on getting a tow rig and trailer but the $$$ of diesel is scaring me.  I might have to swap a 3.4 in and actually drive my 4Runner to the trails.
