You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Be very careful if putting wire wheels on an air tool.  Most wire wheels are not rated for the rpm's capable of the tool and will spit out wire needles that will hurt you.  I have a stainless steel wire that is embedded in one of my shelves above my workbench.  I leave it there as a reminder.  Most of the non-metal wheels will be rated for higher rpm's.

i shoot wire wheel strands off at myself anytime i use the wire wheel on my 100v angle grinder... because of this, i wear pants and gloves/longer shirts and face protection when im doing it.....

Thats why you go to a welding store and buy wire wheels rated for grinder speeds, like 12000 rpm. I have two new-ish wire wheels I got a couple weeks ago, one cup style and one flat style, both stainless. I had an old one disintigrate on me while using it which prompted me to buy new ones. Check out my build thread to see the wire wheel.

I wear a face shield, pants and a t-shirt. I am worried about my eyes/face over just about anything else. I don't wear gloves because I was advised not to, something about slipping and the glove pulling your hand into the grinder

jimbo74

a glove getting stuck in a grinder will stop the grinder

if you get a pice of steel sloved into your finger, you will have thought, crap wish i would have worn gloves..... the wheels i used were rated for griders, down to the threaded 5/8" arbor and everything, they actually jsut screw on to the grinder's shaft

instead of a tshirt, its best to wear long sleeves... when i do hardcore stuff, i wear a set of aurplane mechanics coveralls that i got from work

I saw a kid get his glove sucked into a grinder once. He now has no tips on 3 of his fingers and a mangled thumb. That is why I don't wear gloves when using a grinder. I usually have my coveralls on when working in the garage, but sometimes i don't. I would rather have some strands of wire wheel in my hand than have my hand sucked into the grinder. Most important thing in my mind is the face shield, it really helped when that one wire wheel blew up on me.

gnob

i used one of those at my last job.
it was ok but it would be a really really cold day before i paid $400 for that thing

i use a shitty electric drill a buddy gave me for free with a wire wheel attachment.
way cheaper and i personally think that my solution works better that the crud thug.
there are lots of places you cant get that tool into, that i can get my my drill into.
hold this. . .
