transmission gears r150/r151
« on: May 02, 2008, 01:59:13 PM »
why do some gears have raises metal on the side of the teeth. is it just from machining? is is OK to remove that metal to prevent teeth from chipping before they are removed. what's the best way to remove 2nd gear on a r150f?  I've found some good gears and I'd like to remove them with out to much carnage..

no response ??? OK i did a little asking around with the local guru's and found this. i can remove the edge if i want. no bad things well happen. some guys do it with their race transmissions just because. also use something soft to remove the gears .. aluminum or copper. just put it between the gear and tool your using to remove the gear with.

i think i have a r150 tranny. will a r151 bolt up in its place, or do i need to get a new bellhousing for it?

do you have a V6?  pretty sure you can use your v6 bellhousing and bolt the r151 right to it. if your running a 22r with a r150 you already have a r151 bellhousing that someone has removed from a turbo truck.
