I want to add some off road lights to my pickup.  I was liking those Slim KC's.  They would fit nicely, 2.75" deep.  They have 2 versions both about the same price.  They have 1 with 130 watt "blue" H3 bulb and the other with normal 100 watt H3 bulb.  I don't care how they look and I know the "blue" one has a fancy finish.  I am more concearned with what will light up the trail better.  I guess since the price is about the same despite the "blue" ones having a fancy finish means they aren't really better per se.

They say the blue light looks whiter and is easier on the eyes.  But is it brighter?  I was once told that the blue part of the light spectrum isn't particularly good for illumination.  Personally I think its just because KC wanted to build lights to go on high end SUVs with real HID lights and wanted them to match.  :stopit:  But I don't care about that, I just want to see where I'm going.

What do ya'll think would be better for the trails?

Thanks in advance

Just get the standard ones.  After a few years of being exposed to the elements on the front of your rig the glass will either get broken or the reflector will rust.  But there is a big bonus in that happening.  Instead of spending around $25 for KC's "replacement" 165 watt sealed beam bulb, you have the option to go to a local truck stop or tractor supply shop and buy their tractor 150 watt sealed beam bulb.  I have made the mistake of buying KC's 165 watt bulbs once.  All that they are is wagner 150 watt tractor bulbs, I know this because it said wagner 150 watt on the backside of the bulb!  You can usually pick up the tractor bulbs for around $10 generically.

They both use H3 bulbs so replacement bulbs are the same.  I'm not so much worried about that.  Like you said replacement bulbs are available.  But I am concearned about which of the 2 will give more light on the road.

The clear ones are put off much better light than the blue ones for what you are wanting to do.  The blue ones have their place though.  They work wonders up in the snow you can see forever then.

ill never buy another set of KC's again  :reg: i had 5 up front on my bumper along time ago and replaced them with a set of 8 inch round IPF's with the cobalt blue bulbs in them and i tell you what those 2 lights alone out did 5 of my KC's hands down.everything on them is water proof and i have had them on and working for 6 yrs now and not one problem

Does IPF make a thin model so I can mount it on a stock bumper.  That's why I like the slim KC's.  And the price is right.  I can get a pair for $100.
