axel locker mod preps
« on: Apr 14, 2008, 04:21:40 PM »
OK I'm getting ready to install a 90's Toyota p/u axle in my 79. first i plan to install an Aussie locker. i have the locker and have pulled the axle's and the 3rd . what parts well i need to put it back together right? so far it looks like 2 axle o-rings and a diffentail gasket. the drums also had gaskets between the axle flange's and drum. they did not survive. should i get new ones? my older drums didn't use them. any other parts i might need or helpful idea's?

Axle seals, sealent I prefer the FIPG from Toyota or The Right Stuff, gear oil. I do not use the gaskets on the drums or the Diff. On the diff I just use the sealent

thanks.. why did they put those gaskets on the drums anyway? also what do you think about those marlin self indexing rear axle seals?  they look pretty fool proof to me.

I've never seen gaskets on the drums/backing plates

i never did either until i pulled apart this 90-93 rear axle. i almost want to go to Toyota and see if it's in their parts brakedown. i was wondering if some brake guru knew why it would be used. it's super thin paper. the drums look almost new.. hmm wonder if they changed drums and left on something thats supposed to be removed???
