I've been informed that distributor can be updated from points to electronic ignition simply by updating the distributor.  Does anyone have experience with this?

I noticed that the points distributor has only one wire (power).  While the electronic distributor has two wires, power and a white, I don't know what white is?

Any information would very much be appreciated.

AFAIK, you have to change to a later model ignitor also.  I'd just put in a Pertronix Ignitor for $80 or run the GM Module for $50.
The points style ignitor is designed to trigger spark when ground is lost...(points open) and a electronic style dissy triggers the ignitor with a pulse from the pickup module inside it.
I think you have to change some wiring regardless, except for the pertronix unit.

...Thanks for the info.  I haven't decided to upgrade yet.  It's just that I have an extra distributor with a working vacuum advance.  I just looked up the pertronix unit and it seems to use the same distributor with a electronic points replacement.  I should be able to use a whole new distributor?  it does seem like a simple install, as it made for such.
Thanks for the info.

yeah you yank the points, drop in the pertronix unit and a mag trigger sleeve and run two wires to the coil. Done.
