setting up third member

Does anyone know if someone makes "setup bearings" for toyota thirds?  It would be nice to get my shims right without pressing bearings off a bunch.  Thanks in advance.

While I dont think you can find em at a shop, I do know for a fact the lots of us take an old set and lightly grind the centers a bit so they slide on and off, (just tight enough to slide) so you dont have to do that to the new ones, when its set right then you press the new ones on.

Thanks for the idea, I wasn't sure if the slop in the old bearing would have any effect

Well thats why you chekc it with the new bearings once you think you got it . And if I seen on a car show once that if you set you bearings on a hot plate or something it makes them alot easier to put on , they should slide right on.

The way the gear shops do it is to have an extra set and hone them out just a bit with a brake hone.  You can still get a tight reliable fit without the need to press them on and off.  MUCH quicker!!
