BigMike you got me sold! Do you have one for my Jeep?
WELL ive noticed marlins machined parts arnt all that great! i bought a long spline and it was bent and couldnt even slide it together and ive bought a dual case adapter and had it in for about 3months and heard a wierd grinding noise... i took it out and saw that a ball bearing was cracked and a chunck was missing from the shaft it was the mc adapter with the bearings pressed in! and a nother hard thing to do is callin the place and talking to some one.... BUT all in all they replaced every thing and i havent had a problem since!
Ok guys, I searched and searched and searched and I've finally found my super old comparison post about our 4.70:1 Gear Set compared to the A/A 5.0:1 set that I posted on the pirates bbs along time ago........Here is the raw data:Marlin Crawler 4.70:1 Gear Set: Input Gear: 20 teeth Idler Gear: 35 and 16 Low Spd Gear: 43A/A 5:1 Gear Set: Input Gear: 20 teeth Idler Gear: 37 and 16 Low Spd Gear: 43Actual Ratios:Marlin Crawler 4.70:1 Gear Set: (35/20) x (43/16) = 4.703125:1A/A 5:1 Gear Set: (37/20) x (43/16) = 4.971875:1.........Well here are some physical differences:...........................Regards,BigMike
I see that a competitor is now selling 5.7:1 gears, got any comparision info on those? Is Marlin planning on selling these?
You better provide a link. I have heard of 4.0:1, 4.7:1, 4.97:1 & 5.0:1 (really 4.97:1 gears), but not 5.7:1. Trail Gear has a set of 6.5:1 gears for a Samurai, are you looking at a Sami gear set? From what I know, the 4.70:1 design was chosen because it maximized the available space in the stock t-case housing. This is why the 4.97:1 gear set is the same diameter and just added two additonal teeth. It seems that in order to get a 5.7:1 reduction, it would take a bunch more super thin teeth which would be significantly weaker than anything else on the market.
I believe he is talking about Advance Adapters.
You better provide a link.
If you look at the bearing loads marlins is much stronger. Also the adaptor is cast and is not nearly as strong as aluminum. They are using a single bearing instead of the double bearing like marlins. TG is going to say that it is a better adaptor, but like all their products they have failed to show any stats on how their products are stronger. Truthfully I would be afraid to run anything from them because most of their stuff is made in china. It is a well known fact that the materials used in china are not nearly as strong as materials used in the US and in other countries. The 4.7 gearset I would not trust. Marlins have been out for a long time now with no problems that I am aware of. Why would you go with anything other than a proven product? Price means nothing, I would much rather pay more and now that I am getting a product that will hold up and take the abuse.
have you guys compared the dual adapter from trail gear to the mc07 yet??? and the 4.7 gear sets also??
I am wondering how the AA TX2 compares. Bigmike, if you could post any info that would be great. ThanksCasey

I will be doing a lot more reviews this fall. Please hang loose until then!ThanksMike
i believe that allpro also sells the 5.7:1 gearsets http://allprooffroad.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=18
