... have been looking to get rid of my Jeep & get a 'yota, and I THINK I may have found one. it's an 84-???, MAYBE solid-axle converted, Xtra cab, shortbed, had a cooling problem and warped the head. HOPEFULLY it will be a cheap acquisition. Wish me luck.

Mike D

up till 85 toys still had the straight axlel in the front out of the factory and 84-85 they put an extra truss to make the diff stronger. good luck and it sounds like a good buy.
87 runner, 4" trailmaster lift, 33" TSL/SX, 5.29's V6 e-locker, 22re that cost too much

thanks for the info, guys. I am gathering info on it from his neighbor ( so far, he's the only one I have been able to get a hold of ), but, from what his neighbor said, and, this sounds confusing, "He converted it to MANUAL locking hubs, or something like that." THAT is why I think he might have swapped IFS for a solid-axle. Any info would be appreciated, still waiting on a callback.

Also, which year's heads will fit on this year? ( I THINK it's an 84-87? )

TIA

again the manual locking hubs are something the 84 should have came with from the factory as well as the solid axle
Common sense just isn't that common anymore

84runner

Well hey newbie  everytime I think about calling you it is late , So you now have a PM

well i dont know about 84. but in 85 some of the toyota trucks had the auto locking hubs. so the manual hub swap could be true. solid axle toy 79-85. some people say they have an 86 solid axle its an 85

well, I took 84runner with me today to check it out, but nobody was home YET again. BUT, from what he was saying, it's an 85 Xtra cab with a snugtop on it, larger shackles & a manual hub conversion ( the hubs, dare I say it, look like they came from a J--p.  :smack: ). So, if I can either receive a phone call from the owner, or catch him at his house miraculously one day, I'll have more info.

Skinny_Pedal

the huns came off a jeep? most jeeps today dont even have locking hubs. what did they say on them. if it said aisin then they are stick and they are the best hubs for your truck

Im gonna go out on a limb and think they were warn's?  They look the closest to a heep hub.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

84runner

Ya probably WT it looks like a pretty loaded SR5 with sun roof , electric windows , probably A/C too. I didn't feel like climbing the fence with the hot wire to look at it  :shocking:

well, I talked on the phone with the owner of the 85, and he said that he would probably go as low as $800, since the 30"  :stopit: tires were brand new ( 4 YEARS AGO!!!!! ), and besides the radiator & the BOTTOM end being blown up, the bed & snugtop being a faded pink, and the rest being red, & the frame & bed being rusted pretty good ( Utah/ SoCal beach truck  :smack: ), there's nothing wrong with it. So, what's next?

Hey man trust me on this one before you buy the truck check the FRAME buy the gas tank my 84 rusted out here. Also check everything and I mean everything take it for a lengthy test ride. $800.00 is a little steep I think for what is wrong with it plus you never know what the guy is hiding from you. I wish you the best of luck :crossed: and hope  you get it with no major problems with it.

84runner

I don't think it is drivable  :headshake: especially since it's been sitting for so long with all those problems  :dunno:

I need something now, & CHEAP. I have no ride to work soon ( friend will get tired of picking me up & dropping me off soon )

Skinny_Pedal

if u dont live to far, purchase a moped. and if your that low on bread i wouldnt suggest a 4wd due to all the things that they have that could go wrong. i would go with a 2wd.
