I have decided to hold back on the flatbed idea for a bit and bob my bed this week.  I will either start tomarrow or next week.  I plan on going to Hell Hole saturday so it has to be done by friday.  I only have a couple hours a day to work on it because of work.  I plan on taking maybe 8 inches off.  I will need to cut my bumper but it won't be that hard.

The cleanest way to cut the bed is either with a jigsaw or a metal cutting blaed on a skillsaw.  the jug saw is the easiest.  To mark the cut measure from the front of the bed to the point you want to cut, make this measurement at least 3 times, top, middle and bottom.  Mark those points then (you'll love this) using a piece of string holding it snuggly down the marks spray paint over the string to give you a nice clean cut line.  Do the same for the floor to mark it as well.  Its really not as hard as it seems.  I have not yet cut a 1st gen but on 2nd gen's 10" makes the bed perfectly proportional.  11" does the same for 3rd gen's.

Well, i wasn't that precise but i don't care lol.  I have one more year of high school and yes, i do have a truck. I started it today.  Well, here are the pics.  I took 10 inches total out of it.  I couldn't get the rear bumper off.  So i tied it to a tree and crawled.  Now you all can see my bumper i made all put together.  Except i will need to cut it to make it fit with the bob.

rear buimper and tail gate and lights taken off.  4 rear bedmounts taken off also.

Hyena

All the wiring.  Most does nothing, just for a trailer.  Here are the lines to cut, 10 inches apart.

Hyena

both lines cut with a sawzall.  Here are the marks for the floor part.

Jared

what are you gonna do about the frame stickin out....

Both parts cut off.  Here is the frame cut off.  Used a torch on that. :flamer:

Jared

did your friend change his bed in the background???

His bed is bobbed 10 inches also and it has a 1 inch bed lift for buggy springs.  and it is also a 2wd bed with the fenders cut out.  here is my bed held on by C-clamps.  You can see the gaps in the floor board, not that bad.

Hyena

It is tacked on for tonight.  that is all i got done today in about 3 hours by myself.

Roger that BigMike!  I will do that right after i post my pictures of todays work.  Here are the pictures.  look at this gap.  Its a big one but it wasn't that big of a problem.  this is the body mount i have to cut off so i can use my bumper again.

Hyena

The body mount cut off.  Cutting on the bumper.

Hyena

The bumper on the truck.  You can see we need to do a lot more cutting and welding.  This is a couple lines i need to cut and weld together.

Hyena

The other lines i need to cut.  Here are the welds on the bed.  It has the one going to the side becasue i had to slit it to fix the gap.

Hyena

The welds on the floor board.  I had about 12 inches left when my welder stopped working.  I really need to get the new part now.  Her is a side ground down.

Hyena

I needed something to do so i cut my rear fenders right at the line.  thats all i got done.

That's coming along awesome.  I just noticed something in the pictures, I can't see your exhaust.  What are you running for exhaust on that bad boy?

yotamaster

Exhaust is cut off right before the muffler.  I had to cut and weld it when i did my dual cases.  Haven't had the will to weld on my muffler.  Didn't get much done at all today.  I don't have a welder that works right now and i don't have a chop saw to cut my bumper.  Hopefully i can get ahold of those tomarrow from a friend.  Here are some pictures i took today.
