Drive flanges vs locking hubs
« on: Feb 17, 2008, 05:26:30 AM »
What is the thought on using drive flanges instead of manual locking hubs on a full time offroad rig?

This rig doesn't see hardly any pavement, has an Aussie, 5.29 and longs rolling on 35"s.

This is true but you can break a drive flange.

If it is a DD and you run 30-spline Longs Bobby recommends you do not run them.

he has longs as it says in his forst post.  you don't need flanges.  arp hub studs and cromo hub gears should be all you need.  you never know when you might want to unlock the hubs.

i was actually referring to the rooster about longs..... flanges are cheap and the lockouts are more to build them nice but the option to unlock is ALWAYS good!

I broke my stock birfs the first wknd i had my 38's without effort. I bought the 35 spline inners birfs and hub gears from Bobby if you opt out of the hub gears they will blow for sure poss stripping the splines I believe there are warranty issues if you dont use the upgraded hub gears.. :_oops:

If I was to go to drive flanges these are the only ones I would get. Longfield flanges.

You can't easily add dowel pins to lockouts but it is easy to do with drive flanges. That is the major pro. You can add dowel pins and run drive flanges or get ARP studs and hub gears. If you just get the longfield hub gears you are not addressing the problem of blowing the hubs off the truck.
If you still have control you aren't going fast enough
