Background first. . .I've been looking at putting an IFS set-up onto a non-IFS truck (gonna use it for in the desert/fire roads/etc. . .mostly higher speed trail use not rock crawling) and I wanted to use an '05-08 Tacoma 4WD IFS front with Total Chaos uniball long travel suspension (with the extended 4130 axles and dual shock hoops) but I was told that this wouldn't work because the '05+ Tacoma differential is centered and my rig has the trans case output shaft on the driver's side.
I talked with Advanced Adapters and they said that the earlier Tacoma's (the '86-95's is the one that Advance referenced but I don't know about the '96-04 IFS diff's) IFS diff's/transfer cases are driver's side drop just like my rig is. . .so now I'm not so sure about anything and I don't have access to any Tacoma's to crawl underneath and start snooping about. . .here's what I'd like to know:
'86-95 Tacoma 4WD transfer case/IFS differential. . .driver's side, passenger side, or centererd location?
'96-04 Tacoma 4WD transfer case/IFS differential. . .driver's side, passenger side, or centererd location?
'05+ Tacoma 4WD transfer case/IFS differential. . .driver's side, passenger side, or centererd location?
