The IFS cv does have enough working angle to work on the solid axle. You will have to take the cv apart & clearance it to get it to work. Use the cv from you truck & have a d-line built  :twocents:

I think what tall Chevy was trying to say is that the IFS CV does NOT have enough angle to work with a solid axle truck with lift. If I understand correctly you should use a solid axle CV front d-line (85 and before) and lenghten it according to your application.

Here is a link on how to clearance an IFS CV for more angle (it takes a while to load). You will get more angle then a solid axle CV, I think mine is at 41 degrees. You are also going to need a long slip joint or on full droop on the PS side it will come apart. I have been told that the TG slip is not the best choice, the bearing caps are welded to the yoke. Marlin and All-Pro also sell them.

well i checked the link and im not gonna flopp around with an IFS shaft and i dont want anyone local to do the work...the one and only place that would/could do the drive shaft wants over 200 bucks...id rather just buy the marlin or TG kit and be done with the deal.

thanx for the help fellas...i wanted to find the cheapest propper way to do it...im done half assing parts on my truck..so i wanted to double check with you guys.  :turtle:

As stated above, the IFS CV does NOT have sufficient working angle or slip-joint length for staight axles.

...im done half assing parts on my truck...
Then don't buy Trail Gear...

The Marlin long travel slip-joint will do the trick for you.

I am curious why you won't use a square front shaft.  They work great and, when built well, are quiet and near indestructable.

Not a problem at all.  When you drive in 2wd, you don't even know its there, because it isn't moving.  You do it right, and even when you're in 4wd, but cruising (snow on the road, etc.)  it vibrates a little, but not much.  I've run mine at 50mph with no issues on I-80 coming over donner summit in the winter before I pulled over and unlocked the hubs.

i might as well do the square shaft...im super broke right now and its the cheapest/best route for me it seems.

im gonna try and hunt down a different u-joint end from an 84-85??? and re-drill it?!?!?

I believe I used my IFS cv, but I'm not positive.  I had a few front driveshafts lying around, and I'm not sure which one I used.  Here's a link for building the square front.  this is the guide I used to build mine, and it turned out awesome
