4cyl Lock Right spacer orientation question (Pics)

Okay, I've done a V6 lock Right, but this is my first 4cyl install.  (Going in the front of the Blu project.) I'm having trouble visualizing which way the spacer is supposed to go in.

The instructions say, and I quote "place a spacer into the center of each driver as seen in figure five (figure five in the instructions sucks photo-wise)wide end toward the teeth if the spacer is not symmetrical"

I guess where I am lost is which is considered the "wide" end?  Is it the end with the wide surface and small hole, or is it the wide open end that fits nicely over the raised center ridge of the side gear?

It makes more sense to me mechanically to have it riding on the flange of the side gear so that it keeps the two halves aligned, but the picture in the manual makes it look the other way with the flat surface of the washer riding against the ridge.  Someone just tell me which of my pictures is correctly oriented.  The picture in the manual also looks like a V6 carrier cross shaft that has the 4pinion.





Later on in the instructions it states to "place it (driver gear) on the teeth of the coupler (side gear) and press it into the grease.  Reach into the center and push the spacer down onto the coupler shoulder". 

Sure sounds like the wide open end of the coupler fits down over the shoulder on the center of the side gear like I have in the first picture.  Am I right?

3. Place the spacer rings into each driver. Your spacer rings will be symmetric, so you can ignore the instruction's warnings about wide and narrow ends on the rings. Place a thrust washer on the back side of each coupler, similar to how they sat on the original side gears.
