the other side of that argument could be that lockers can take one OFF trails (where open diffs might not be able to go) where one SHOULDNT be...and cause damage :blah: :pokinit:, I've seen someone in a Honda accord do more damage to the environment than someone in a built rig...its all about the driver
its all about the :idiot: that  just doesnt think about what  his actions do to  get us all  fenced out of a place

lock it wait til you get duals to get a new x member

my vote is an aussie, i think you will be impressed with the night and day difference of driving with a locker. you seen to be more into mild wheeling so a cross member is not really necessary IMO. The locker will help you immensely with traction. big difference over open.

As for the tread lightly, yes it is important to do as little damage as necessary but what 81 said he is doing sounds rather benign to me. He sounds like someone that appreciates and respects nature so you guys should relax a little. He isnt talking about some pretty little creek with frogs and plants. I know exactly what he is speaking of because we have a lot of rivers like that here in california. Regardless of what "fuel" it may be for the enemy, there is no way spinning tires in that kind of riverbed is causing ANY environmental damage. Mother nature tears these places apart every winter and rebuilds them. The sediment (what little there would be as its 98% gravel with tiny bits of sand here and there) would be nothing compared to what nature dishes out each winter. If you dont believe me I will take pictures of a local river much like 81 here is describing, and show you want it looks like in 6 months.

I understand exactly what Glen and MWM and others are saying. But if eco nazis chose to try and use that as ammunition they would just be lying. As a whole we all need to be careful about our actions and our impact on the environment so that we dont lose our trails. What he is talking about is not any different than crossing the creek at fordyce, sometimes you gotta spin your tires to get across, even in 4wd.

How did this get turned into an environmental issue? Are ya all going tree hugger on me?  :outtahere:

I think there is a neverending arguement here. No matter your stand there is always gonna be someone to argue about their take on the situation. The sad part is as 4wd enthusaist we should be on the same side of the fence.

I guess its kinda sad when we cant assume everyone is gonna do the responsible thing.

I'd go for the locker for sure, especially if you are doing forest trails. Less wheel spin the better.

Dude, you're freaking me out!  I was behind a car today that was nearly covered in the back by tree hugger and eco nut bumpers stickers.  I had this thought that I should make a bumper sticker that says "hippies make good fertilizer!" and stick it on there...
RIP KYOTA

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!
