Warning labels

Picked up an MP3 player yesterday (B-day present giftcard) and the packaging said:

When opening, DO NOT use a knife, as it will cause injury.  Please use scissors.  :eyeroll:


C'mon now, I'm a 23 year old guy living on his own!!! Like I'm supposed to own a pair of scissors?  :headshake:


I'm proud to say that I did use a knife to open the package, and 5 minutes later, no blood loss, and all appendages are still intact!! :gap:


So anyone else seen any stupid warning labels on stuff they've bought recently?

everything that can be purchased has an idiotic warning label.

buy a knife "warning, blade is sharp"
wireing "warning conducts electricity"

yeah...the batteries we have at work..and the Prop 65 warning: batteries and related materials contain Lead, which may cause cancer.  Wash hands after handling.

Never mind the acid that will burn the :pokinit: outta you though. :headshake:

and the Prop 65 warnings on computer cables now crack me up.

the package on Clam Shells at work say: Do NOT eat shells.

and the hot chocolate package, and breakfast sandwich label both say:

PRODUCT WILL BE HOT AFTER HEATING

No, that award was reduced.


But...all those idiot labels are the result of idiot law suits. I guess they got to a point where they got all the company lawyers around and thought up every single thing that could possibly happen and warned us about it. Now, the warnings in medicine commercials take up more air time than explaining the product.

My mom bought a cake once, and (no joke) on the bottom of the cake container it said "Do not turn product over" or something to that effect. I got a kick out of it.

:yesnod:  there should be a pit outside all courthouses.  If somebody comes in with an obvious frivelous or trumped up lawsuit they'd be taken out, dumped in the pit and left to rott with all the other drains on society.  All forms of insurance would drop and become more affordable, and I may be able to *gasp* afford health insurance  :yikes:

If the law was changed so that if you brought suit and lost...you would pay the costs of the defendant, there would be far fewer attempts to "get rich quick".

I like how the little silica packets in shoes say "DO NOT EAT" as do the packets in beef jerky. My dad has a snow blower and there is a warning label to the effect of  "Do not attempt to touch blades while they are in motion or the vehicle is operating"
