so if anyone could show some pics that could help  that would be great. i will also only have 2 days to build it before i go to watch the goldendale comp this weekind thanks for the help

brainlessfool

why can't you use a trailer with the camper?
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

yotaboy79

he probably ment fifth wheel

brainlessfool

yotaboy79

what are you talking about for a car???????? ??? :headscratch:

brainlessfool

ok,ok, gesssssh TRUCK . like it matters. I don't see why a trailer can't run behind a truck with a camper on it. that's all  :slap:

by camper he prolly meant that he was towing a fifth wheel, in most states you cant tow more than 1 trailer

Ill be at Goldendale come by and have a beer.  Trust me you wont miss my setup.  Ill be in in the BRIGHT 90 x-cab with flames.

Instead of building a tow bar why not rent one from U-haul?   They are way cheap.
Any way if you wanna build one Id use 2x1x.125.  You'll probobly need about 10-14' total.  Start by cutting the tube to form an A and bend the front part and the rear part at 45's so you have about a 2" togue at the front and a 6" tail that goes straight backl.  By welding the tubes together you will for a 2" wide tongue that a hitch will slip right over to be welded or bolted.  At the tail Id weld 2x.25 bad stock to bothe sides so they leave about 2" sticking out past the end of the tube.  That will allow you to use scrap 1x2 and scrap 2x.25 to build attachment plates for the front of the truck.  Drill the protion that sticks past the tail for 1/2" bolts and the same for the attachment point and your golden.

Yes my description sucks butat least I didnt hijack your thread like some people! lol
Ill draw a pic later for ya.

A friend of mine has a full size camper on his truck and it hangs about 3' off the back. He tows his rig with a tow dolly bought from a rental place. He uses a hitch with a small drop to help clear the end of the camper. The truck is a 4x so it has good ground clearance although he does scrape the tounge of the dolly on occasion. With a 2x pull rig, I would be extra carefull due to the overhang of the camper and lower ground clearance of the tow rig.

my ford has a 300 cid so i dont think i can haul all that weight so that would be why i have decided for the tow bar idea .
i have seen the equlizer hitches it kinda a weight factor

brainlessfool

Well my toy has about 120 ci. and I run a camper and tow a 15ft boat.

if I had any chose I'd go with the trailer for two resanes.

         1. with a trailer twoing will run much smoother and you can back up a trailer. not so with a tow bar.

      2. BRAKES!!!! a trailer has them.  if you have a half ton with only 300ci. I'll beat that you have small brakes too.  would'ant it be nice when your going down that big hill to have some extra stopping power when that hunday pulles out in front of you? or if your like me you could just spread'um all over the road and say "what hunday?"   :beerchug:
