Or should i just get a new tranny?  Thanks in advance!

That's the back end of the tranny, just got my duals in, went to moab, started leaking, came back to find this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Christian

PS:  I know about the wood, please....it's been a long day.

Jumped one to many dunes...

Good luck if you are going to repair that. I wouldn't want to.. and replacing the tail housing is a job.

Beings you have decent access to the break Id clean it with brake clean then make a jig to hold the piece in place.  (think multiple c-clamps)  Id then drill it in at least 2 direction 1 hole going up the other going horizontal.  Then when I Jb'ed it Id have the pins in place to reinforce the break so hopefully it'll never come apart.

You can clean it up real well then V-goove it and weld it up with a couple passes.  I have done it before on cast aluminum parts. If it's done right it will hold up

Welding would work. The tranny to transfer mating surface would have to be real close to true or it could break again.

The last time that I was at a friends welding shop he had just bought a spool gun.  We took a cast aluminum electrical housing about 1/4" thick and cut it in half on the band saw.  He welded it back together with the spool gun, put the welded piece in a heavy bench vise and handed me a 10 lb. sledge.  I finally got it to break but not at the weld :_order:.  If it were me I would try the welding first.

any reputable welding shop,  that can do TIG welding can fix you up but make sure they have experience with aluminum

Wire feed aluminum gun would work just fine too. Again , I wold go to a local college if you can't find anyone to do it and speak to the welding instructor

BigMike, I don't think they were joking.  I have seen people use JB weld on engine blocks.  I have actually repaired a break on my transmission before with JB weld.  It might sound like a joke, but it works.  Guys have repaired the blocks of engines on huge farm tractors.  It's amazing stuff.

84runner

Ya but thats a more get you home fix than load it up and take it to the con

I once JB welded a vaccumm solinoid's little plastic tube and the weight of the attached rubber vaccumm hose broke it off in about a week..

A solinoid like this one:

I havnt used JB for anything else though, so that makes me a bigot  :headshake:
