Toyota V6 E-Locker 3rd
« on: Dec 14, 2007, 09:44:38 AM »
For sale is a Toyota V6 3rd member from a 1998 4Runner rear with the E-LOCKER option.   :phone: Gear ration is stock at 4.30:1.  Unit is in great working order.  I sold the electric motor back to Marlin for credit as I upgraded to a high pinion front with 4.88's.  I am in CT zip code is 06437, and with ship in the same box that marlin shipped my new one in.  Asking $325 plus estimated $75 shipping to most anywhere in US.

I ran this in my front modified SA housing so it has few miles on it.  Works great.

I used a grinder and a round file to trim down the RH edge of the 3rd member so it will clear the U-Bolt.  I also used low profile female hex head screws on the side of the motor to clear the springs.  It's tight but it fit.  As for the housing I have a friend that has a plasma cutter and welding equip (OK a very good friend).  We cut out the RH side a little, added some weld material, drilled and tapped two new holes for the 4" long mounting studs.  I followed instructions found on the web to make it work including building a relay box and mounting switches in the dash.  For switches, Marlin has some that are used with the ARB locker.  I was looking for  a picture of this one installed but don't have an file of it.  I do have a pic (below) of the High Pinion E-locker I just swapped in place of the one currenly for sale above.  I used my motor from the unit for sale with the new 3rd as the wiring harness plug connetion is different and there was nothing wrong with my old one.  The new motor I returned to Marlin for credit toward my lift set up.  So no, this unit does not come with the motor....sorry (or maybe good if you didn't want one anyway).

Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

right on...
thanks for the info,
ive seen how you have to modify for ring gear clearance and the long studs, but i thought the springs were a bigger problem..
was the relay and switch setup hard to wire?

good price too, hope it sells

You have to be a little handy to wire it.  I used a bread board (empty circuit board from Radio Shack) and a small plastic box to house it.  Once you source the relays and terminal block you mark and drill holes for the component pins to feed through and glue the parts to the board then solder it up.  I'll try to take a pic of the finished setup in my rig.  I also found a cool paddle switch to wire up my on board winch control next to the locker switch. :clap2:

Local sale pending (no shipping required).   I took some photo's of the dash that I'll try and load soon.  My wiring diagram is a little scarry and would not be very readable in a photo, but there are quite a few good write ups on how to do this.  I did just that.....read.....read.....read....designed....read....cut!....installed and it worked!  Do your home work first and there should be few surprises.   :shocking:

OK Goose here are some photos of my current Hi-Pinion front e-locker installed showing how the motor sits close to the spring.  I also took some photos of the dash mounted switch set up which I think came out very nice.  The small orange rocker switch is used as a safety switch which cuts the power to the "Off Road Controls".  When this little switch is on, the blue horizontal bar lights up on the Locker switch letting me know things are live.  The Locker rocker, lights up the big blue square when "engaged".  Thus when I push the rocker to lock it, the motor on the 3Rd member I belive turns on and winds up a spring that tries to engage the spline.  The light will not come on if the splines don't line up, but the second there is some differentiation (L/R) the spring which is spooled up will push the shift fork to lock it up. (Same for unlocking)  The other paddle switch is for my winch control (Warn M8000).  I wired it just like the hand held control (actually had to use a meter to figure out how it works).  This is swiching the soleniods on and off so there is litte power needed.  I did set up a second safety swich for the winch control in a different area next to the E-Brake so that has to be swiched on as well.  No need for an accident with the winch.  These are both great features and very trick!

Last Photo is my truck running a trail called the Headless Horseman at Paragon PA.  Yes it is a pumkin killer with the mud, trees and rocks just big enough to scrape.  The selectable locker was great in this situation.

very nice...
tight clearence on the high-pinion...
did you have that trd e-locker up front with the motor on it?

I like the switch setup,
mines kinda sloppy right now between all my lights ill be runnin, my e-fan, and what not, im running out of switch room...
I like the idea of a master on switch to keep from accidental switch hits... i might do something like that too..

Yes the 3rd member that is for sale was installed up front with the motor as well.  The motor clearance with the springs is the same with either the Rear V6 e-locker or the high pinion e-locker set up.
