I made this front diff guard yesterday.  It only took me about 2 hours.  It is made with 1 inch by 1 inch i think .120 wall.  I had the stuff laying around so i thought i would try it since i needed a front guard.  the bend was the hardest part.  I had to pivit it against my bumper.

I got about 1 to 2 inches inbetween the plug and the metal.  I can get a wrench in there but not a rachet.  I still need to reinforce the sides.

I have had more problems with the sides of the diff, (when one wheel goes into a deep hole and stoppes)  it usualy cracks the diff You can see the weld on the picture

As you can see by the dent on the front of the housing in my first picture i smashed into a rock.  Thats probly were i will hit it more time.  I guess i should have built it before i wen to the rubicon but i ran outa time.  It is bad if the ring gear hits the dif caused by the dent?  Im not sure of it does but i still want to hit it out.

WHITE_TRASH

I probobly didnt hurt the ring gear.  If you hit it hard enough then you could do some serious damage to the gears or even the setup of the gears.  I really doubt that you hit it hard enough to cause any damage though.

I didn't hit it too hard.  I was in double low and not even on the gas.  It just hit it and went right over the rock.  I am just worried about it rubbing on the housing.  It seems to be working fine in 4 wheel drive.  I will leave it for now.

WHITE_TRASH

If by chance it did contact the ring gear then Im sure it has self clearanced itself already.  I wouldnt worry about it as it is now, but I would worry if it was hard enough to force the ring gear to chew a hole in the cover.
