OK so I have a '00 taco w/ the R150F .......whines like hell. Does it setting still w/ clutch disengaged (in neutral) and stops when clutch is depressed? Also screams 1-3 gear, nothing in 4th or 5th. I put an OEM clutch kit, new seals and redline mt90 in it this week end and nothing has changed. Shifts fine in all gears, just anoying as hell.
I ordered a marlin r150f w/ 5-1-5, but canelled the order as I just cant swing the 2400.00 less the 700.00 core. So I guess my question is; what options do I have (older r150f's?) and could it possibly be somthing besides the mainshaft/countershaft bearings?
Some info from another board...
check the front countershaft bearing. i've not seen this on that exact trans. but have seen it on other toyota 5sp trannys. the cage holding the balls separated can come apart letting the shaft move over enough to cause noise and eventually gear damage. fourth doesn't make noise because it goes straight through and doesn't load the countershaft.
older model trannys have a shorter input shaft and bellhousing that i don't think will work in a tacoma, they also have the slave cyl. mounted on the pass. side instead of the driver side. hope some of this helps.
4th gear input runs all the time, even in revearse, thats why you hear it in every gear except 4th and 5th. you dont hear it in 4th because you're actually using it and its not free running-it doesn't effect 5th gear.
I would still love any input on the topic though??
Thanks in advance
