i can agree to just the sound of the action scaring people off. i had mine resting beside my bed in my apartment when i lived in midland texas, was startin to go to bed when i heard somebody messin with my lock. knew it wasnt my girlfriend because she was asleep beside me so i rolled outta bed and cocked the shotgun. in the other room i hear somebody say "oh :pokinit:!!" and running footsteps out my front door and down the stairs. good thing i have insomnia i guess.

lol that would be amazing. it would have been better if you let them open the door and walk in then do that. they wold prob fall over and cry when they trip over themselves trying to get out

My home security system is a Glock 21 (45 cal). I figure the business end of my 45 should be enough of a deterrent, if not then maybe the red light shining down the hall way will be. I have winchester model 1200 which is use for hunting and trap, to long for home defense. I would like to pick up a second 12 gauge and set it up for home defense. I think the shot gun is the superior close quarters weapon.
Taking back America, one part at a time! :madeinusa:

my buddys dad has a 24" barrel for his 12 gauge and it kicks like a mule. but that would be the perfect home defence. easy to wheel around a corner and still packs the punch. its really cool

I too have a Glock 21 under my pillow and have been long thinking of getting a short shotty for the side as well. nothing scarrier than hearing a shotgun load a round.

thats a nice shell belt goose where did you get that?
"guns dont kill people I do"

Goose

Heath gave me the shell belt =]
I believe mines a 20" barrel, the extension sticks out just far enough to get a nice black burn on it...  :flamer:
The synthetic stocks help cut down weight, and they're rather comfy.
Mines short and light enough to wing around easily in close quarters, even one handed.
Fully loaded with slugs it can get pretty heavy though, holds a full set of 8 2'3/4" slugs

If you search around on the net, there's all kinds of wicked home defense mods for 870's...
I'm gonna throw some good sights on mine, and maybe a shell holder on the side, but this is also one of my hunting shotties..
A quick barrel change, lose the extension and it makes a great turkey gun, steady as hell with that pistol grip.
And yeah, the loud sound of the action is enough to make most baddies at the other end of the barrel :pokinit: themselves...  :disturbed:

thats funny heath doesn't hunt or have a shotgun. lol  IKnw all about it

accessories for the 870 20 guage are harder to find and barrels cost a whole lot more for it, not as common to turn into a home defense weapon (but its becomming more common).

QuoteSomeday, when I have children of my own they are going to be trained in the proper use and safety protocol of a firearm from a very young age.

I've been trying to convince my wife for years that this is a good idea, 'cause if they know what it is, and understand safety, they will never get hurt accidently. Knowlege is power. Unfortunatly, she refuses to let me even show them the .45 I have, 'cause she's afraid of it.

Yeah, my mom refuses to even consider getting me a gun for Christmas/Birthday because she doesn't like the "idea" of them.  She recognizes they are important in different occupations, but she is afraid of them as well.  :dunno:  She wasn't too thrilled when I bought my first one, thats for sure.

just "forget" that is is on the table, field stripped right before dinner. :gap:

gun saftey is very important but the more you know and the more you handle and use guns the more people realize guns arn't dangerous at all its sloppy handlers and people that are dangerous are what give guns a bad name and cause all the accidents and problems. just like a bad car drivers cause car accidents not cars,  well except for maybe a few certain jeeps and fords haha

skipnrocks

I think it would be pimp to have a home security gun that hada wall mount that bolted into the wall with a finger print reader and a trigger lock,  so it would be easy for the proper person to get off and would be ready to go, but would be well enough guarded to keep it out of the hands of the kids or someone who broke into your house....

:werd: guns are tools, just like a chainsaw, an axe, or a hammer.  Any of those can be dangerous, or potentially deadly in untrained, un educated, and unexperienced hands.

Honestly I am far more worried about all the heavily armed citizens I deal with EVERY day. Instead of a gun their weapon of choice is a 2000 lb + block of steel with wheels called an automobile. People behind the wheel scare me more than anyone with a gun.

its been a few years since this topic was discussed, and the truth back then is the same now, but the releative risk is higher today than it was then. Thought maybe I would bring this back to the forefront to just get us talking about it again. Jason, your awsome dude! (yea, some of us OG know each other by name....) .... Just messin....

Before anyone goes off for what I'm about to say here's some background on me. I grew up in a small farming community where I hunted and fished. I own a .308 (my grandmother passed it on to me when she died) and a 870 12 gauge. I don't support gun control. But I will admit this, I don't support assault rifles being sold. I don't see a practical use for them, since to me a gun was always used for target practice to get your sights in for hunting so you could put meat on the table. I do though understand this is America and I wouldn't try and take anyones guns away because we all know. If you ban guns the bad guys will give them up too! NOT. Thank you for the 40 reasons. They made me laugh!

Assault rifles are highly regulated per the NFA act and usually very expensive. Also the division of gun owners by liberals is happening as you see here with your comment about guns for hunting. Our gun rights were never about hunting and owners of all guns need to band together and understand that liberals will divide and conquer. First, the semi auto rifles like ar15s and then will take your hunting guns.

I don't support any firearm getting banned. Its to late for that to work ad they want to much.
