drilling springs

I have destroyed several drill bits trying to re-locate my center pin holes in my spring pack.  Whats the best way to do this?

um i got an answer dont drill it   why are you trying to relocate them ive never herd of people drilling the springs just the perches on the axle and your not gunna kill your drill bits that way eather i wouldent drill an extra hole in a spring pack for fear of weakining it.

Yup the problem isnt the bits its the fact that you are trying to drill them!  DO NOT DRILL THE SPRINGS!!!!!  If you want to relocate the axle either drill the perch and/or get axle relocation plates from a vendor such as sky's.  Again do not try and drill your springs they will break and screw up your trip.

I got a neat little trick for drilling spring, not for axle relocation purpose but for somting like doing 2 short leaves out of one long.

Take a massonery drill and sharpen it like your normal drill bits, you can dril 3 to 4 spring before it begin to melt because the tip is not there anymore.

Oh and put alot of cutting oil on it.

Heat is bad for springs steel it'll take the temper, thus the "spring" out of the spring steel.  Yo if you need any help with figuring this out just ask.

Yea Yea I was really hoping you were joking but one never knows.  I have said far worse things then later thought better of it.  Some of my best ideas were the worst 10 minutes later.

OK seriously, how does one drill a hole for lets say a graphite slider in the end of a spring leaf or how do the makers do it punch it in a press??

geez,,,not sure I can get my fist through that leaf spring..I tried it once with some bricks..Did'nt work,,Just hurt ALOT

buy the spring relocatin plate for ease,,or put rears upfront and go cross over and mover your shock mounts..Its work but worth it..
