Transmission whine
« on: May 21, 2004, 12:43:37 PM »
Hey all, I'm new and I'm glad I found you. Seems like I get a different diagnosis from everyone I talk to so I hope someone here can help me out.
I just bought a 95 Runner V6 5spd. Love the truck..wish I bought one sooner!
Only problem is it whines in every gear except 4th. Sounds like a firetruck siren in first, 2nd and 3d..real quiet whine in 5th.
What do I do?!

im thinkin a bearing but i dont think its the input bearing cuz when i blew my input bearing  it didnt just whine the shaft floped around like a mother f*cker and split the case and an input bearing would do it in every gear, not every gear except 4th, drain your tranny oil and check for metal shavings in oil or on the magnetic drain plug or like in my case check for ball bearings and gear teeth :ack:  as soon as the allknowing genios of crawlers shows up he will give you a pritty strait forward answer of what bearing ect... is messed up

Wow, I never saw this post..and neither did Marlin.

It's ok if you just want to discuss it here. You are 'checking-in' after all-

It sounds to me that your bearings are going out, but it could also be your carirer bearing (do 4Runners have two piece drive lines?) however 4th gear would wine also.....

so Im gonna go with its Bearings in your trans.

I'll get Marlin to check this out tonight-
