not another carb question.
« on: Oct 23, 2007, 02:28:34 PM »
i have a good running carb out of a 86 that i am putting in a 79. now i have searched and have not found what i was looking for. i want to simplify the carb as much as possible. and still jhave it run ok there is no emissions in th truck now and am not planning on putting them back in. i know that i can block all the vacume ports and eliminate the choke. and it will run in warm weather but it gets cold here so i need a choke. i dont want to buy another weber if i can avoid it, but they are simple and i know they work i have never had any luck in the cold with the stock system. is the a thread that has all of this info because i havent found it yet. i just need it to be simplifed as much as possible and work.

yes you can eliminate a lot of the features on the stock 22r carb. just for fun look at the stock racing carbs by LCE. but most of the features on the stock 22r carb work really well the way they are. in fact i wish i could mod the idle up feature and AAP to work on my weber. Better MPG. if you still want to .. just take out one feature at a time and see how you like it.

I would say you want to provide vacuum to the existing ports.  You will lose much of the functionality of the carb without them.  If the carb can't properly measure airflow and meter fuel then you are essentially just dumping gas in your engine arbitrarily.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5
