L50 vs L52HD

I read the difference on the site, but what am i really gaining for the added money?  I dont know much about transmissions so im confused.  According to the charts, the gear ratios are the same so whats the difference is the G series? Anyone ever had either one of these break?  Thanks for the help and input.

L50 was stock in 81-82  trucks,  L52  was stock in 83

the L52HD  is a special made  L52  with G54 guts

i have one  and LOVE IT

it also doesnt require  alot  of  modifications  to bolt in a first gen truck like a G54 would


if i could i would put this in the proper tech section

G54 is 6 inches longer than the L52

gear wise no difference?  why do you love your HD over a typical transmission?
