nice axles, but i agree with DTB, this is my first bent housing, and i picked up a 87 axle for 25.00...so cant really go wrong there

and will half tube the lower axle tube with 1/4 wall 3 inch tube where it typically bends
is that really necessary though? doesnt the axle typically bend up? I would think a top truss alone would be sufficient. It would also decrease ground clearance on the axle tube 1/4 inch...i know its not much but it could help

I'm happy to see that you have a unbent axle for your runner, even though it is a so small toy axle but thats ok cuz my trucks bigger than yours!HA

But seriously right on :biggthumpup: but I have to say one thing;

fabricated perches that are 8 inches long and 2 inches taller, to eliminate the lift blocks

diff stud eliminator kit

new shock mounts

and schedule 80 pipe welded to the bottom near the flanges, because thats where toyota axle most commonly bend

Hey Dan. Did you have a crush sleve in that 3rd when you broke, or were you using a solid spacer?

so at the very end there is where the IFS axles bend at?

When i put the marlin front truss on just for :pokinit: and giggles i put the truss on the rear axle and with some trimming it would weld right on.  Does the inner part of the axle by the pumpkin ever bend or twist or is it just the very outside where it tapers??

Nice fab skills by the way and those are some beautiful welds.

I have never heard of this....the reason for it on the front is because there is a long and short side axle tube...the long side is "more prone" to bending...There is no long side on the rear axle...these things are pretty much bulletproof

what DTB said is true for the most part, im sure some have been bent in the center, but its not as common, the last 3-5 inches at the end is where they frequently bend, due to the factory "necking" the tube down at the end for some reasom. but right now, this axle will not bend there, that tube is 1/4 thick

and thanks for the complement on my fabbing...ive been doing it forever but still learn new stuff everyday

here is teh installed product, using 5/8th grade 5 bolts

im sure  you all are wondering about the coils

well i removed the 4 inch lift blocks, the perches are 2 inches taller, which left me with a 2 inch differance

so i added aerostar coils, these coils lifted the truck 2.5 inches, as well as picked up the rear spring so that its not riding on the overloads anymore.

the truck rides better, can handle more payload((i carry alot of tools)
and sways less on the windy raods i drive to work

im very impressed, espessially considering they where 15 dollars at the wrecking yard and took 20 mins to install

Knock on wood I'm still running the same 4:88's for 5 years now. And I'm not easy on my junk. Be careful when your doing all that welding to the housing. You can warp it. When I was building my housings I was amazed on how much they moved while I was welding.

Nice work. How did you mount the springs so they don't fall out?

well, the top sits around teh factory bumpstop thingie, and the bottom is kinda held in place by the bolts, and they only come out if i jack the truck up all the way, take the shocks off, and pry on em with a pry bar...so im fairly sure they will stay on teh trail...if not...who cares, cost me nothin :D
