Hey guys. I'm looking at buying a 96 Chevy 1500 V6 to use as a haul rig. It's my girlfriend's dad's and he said $5000 and I only gotta pay him 100 bucks a month! i think that's a pretty sweet deal so my question is will the V6 be able to pull my Toy? How about up the hill to Tahoe? FYI it's got a brand new 5 speed tranny and recently rebuilt motor.
85 P/U, 5.29's, ARB's, 5" Skyjacker front w/ shackle, 5" Chevy rear w/ shackle+buggy,in cab cage, Ford shock hoops etc. I WANT CROSSOVER!!!

if its a vortec v-6 and you don't have a cab-over camper on it. and you don't feel you have to run 65 pulling your yota up hill then I'd say yes it will do what you want. but it's not over flowing with power just keep that in mind
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Put it this way, yes itll tow but its just like my brother towing his 69 camaro on a equipment trailer behind his 4 cyl yota....slow and steady but it towed safely.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

brainlessfool

well maybe not as slow as that, but it's not a power house with a yota behind it, and some camping gear, and the girl freind, and the dog , and tanks full, and coolers full and traffic going slow and and  and :smack:

it will get you there, butt if you want to hall  :moon: you need a big block some thing

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I'll go with it. Slow and steady wins the race.....right?

yeah the only thing i dont like about it is that you have to run premium and it gets 7mpg when you baby it

Speaking of going slow...
I always thought Toyota should change their slogan to:
"Toyota: they run forever 'cause it takes so freaking long to get there."
Says me and my 5.29s... :screwy:

OOPS

I tow my 4,800 pound rockcrawler on an 1,800 pound trailer with my 02 Tundra, It does alright, slow on the take off but once you get going it is all right. Went over the mountains out of Bakerfield to the hammers at 75 and still pulling. Now stopping, that is another story. Give yourself plenty of room. I am upgradeing the brakes on the traile from 2-wheel to 4-wheel and I also upgraded the controller to a Prodigy. Hope thatis going to help. I wished Toyota would hurry up with their 3/4 ton Diesel!!!!!!!

P.S. I get about 9 MPG on regular unleaded!!!!!
